Sculpture by Daniel Graham

My approach to sculpture is to embrace all of the language developed by the different cultures through the ages and use it in a personal way. I combine the lyrical quality of the figure with the geometric shapes I see around it.

My goal is to create permanent art installations, whether for interior or exterior settings, that enhance the surrounding architecture and hold interest over the years. It mystifies me that the ancient cities of Greece, Italy, India, and China were created with so much art and vision using very primitive tools, and now, with such powerful tools and resources at our disposal, a drive through a modern city reveals little or no art, only very practical, functional buildings. Is there not more to us?

My dream is to help fill some of those empty walls and spaces with sculptures that express some of our feeling, our magic, our mystery.
